The Bays Hospital on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has installed state-of-the-art theatre equipment after a $1.2 million investment.
The operating theatre complex now features the most advanced camera stack system and endoscopes available on the market.
The Bays Healthcare Group’s CEO, Jade Phelan, said the new equipment was a win for patients and staff alike.
“We are proud to continue to invest in technology that positively impacts the patient and surgeon experience at The Bays,” she said.
“This investment ensures that our patients are getting the best care possible, while encouraging more surgeons to choose to operate in our theatre.”
The new theatre’s 4k video cameras support surgeons to perform keyhole surgery and endoscopies, allowing them to take both still and video images in real time.
It aids in diagnosis, and patients can see the images after their surgery.
Earlier this year, The Bays Hospital also purchased a new fleet of endoscopes, including gastroscopes and colonoscopes.
These endoscopes now feature artificial intelligence (AI) functionality, which aids in the early detection and identification of polyps.
Ms Phelan said the new equipment would help with an expected increase in patient numbers at the private hospital.
Gastroenterology admissions on the Peninsula are expected to grow by 30 percent in the next 10 years.
“The increased number of scopes purchased will allow us to meet the increasing demand for gastroenterology services and assist in our strategy to provide the community access to cancer screening services,” she said.
